Can’t remove key from ignition

Diagnose and fix a can’t remove key from ignition issue

GM has issued a service bulletin #14632C to address a can’t remove key from ignition issue on the vehicles listed below. The service bulletin reports that the transmission shifter may not transmit the proper electrical signal to allow the ignition key to be turned counterclockwise to the accessory or lock position after the vehicle has been shifted into park. Once this happens, you can’t remove the key from the ignition without depressing the manual release plunger located on the underside of the steering column.  Worse yet, when the key is left in the accessory position for an extended period of time it discharges the battery, causing a no-start condition.
