Can’t shift out of park, Mazda, Ford

Diagnose and fix a can’t shift out of park condition

Ford and Mazda have issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) #07-6-11 for a can’t shift out of park condition on 2008 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute vehicles built between 1.19.07 and 2.12.07. The shift

Shift interlock is part of the shifter mechanism

interlock may prevent the user from shifting out of park and it may also set a B2572 trouble code. Ford advises that you start by checking the condition of fuse #5 (10A). Then apply the brake pedal and check for brake light illumination. Next, check the electrical connector at the transmission shift lever assembly. Use a digital multimeter to check the resistance of the shift interlock solenoid. The reading should be 30 ohms or less. If it’s higher than that, replace it with new revised parts.
