Can’t shift out of park, trouble code B2572, Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Mariner and Escape Hybrid

Ford has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) #07-6-11 for the brake shift interlock on some 2008 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles built between 1.19.07 and 2.12.07. The shift interlock may prevent the user from shifting out of park and it may also set a B2572 trouble code. Ford advises that you start by checking the condition of fuse #5 (10A). Then apply the brake pedal and check for brake light illumination. Next, check the electrical connector at the transmission shift lever assembly. Use a digital multimeter to check the resistance of the shift interlock solenoid. The reading should be 30 ohms or less. If it’s higher than that, replace it with new revised parts.
