Why is my Check Gauges warning light on

Many GM owners report a Check Gauges light along with an issue where the gauges sweep erratically on their instrument clusters. The body control module provides data to the instrument cluster. But don’t automatically assume you’re dealing with a bad BCM. GM has had lots of ground connection problems and a corroded ground can easily cause erratic electrical behavior.

Shops report that the ground strap behind the front bumper on the passenger side on some vans suffer from severe corrosion problems (GM engineers: You couldn’t see this coming?). But you should always check the ground connection first on all vehicles with erratic electrical issues.
