What is a P0750 trouble code

P0750-LR SOLENOID CIRCUIT refers to a circuit error in the transmission solenoid pack. The Transmission Control System (TCS) has 6 solenoids that pulse on and off quickly to regulate fluid pressure to various transmission friction elements like bands and clutch packs based on the gear range requested.

The PCM tests each solenoid periodically for continuity. The PCM turns on each solenoid for a few milliseconds, then turns it off. This quick on/off procedure creates an inductive spike that is sensed by the TCS. If the TCS commands the test but doesn’t see an inductive spike and the solenoid fails the test three consecutive times, it sets a P0750 and puts the transmission into “limp in” mode where it cannot shift past first or second gear. The TCS will repeat the test at start up and every 10 seconds after that. The TCS does this to protect the transmission from further damage.

P0750 is an electrical fault and does not mean the transmission has mechanical damage. The transmission solenoid/TRS assembly, called a “solenoid pack” must be replaced as a single component. The solenoid pack is inside the transmission and requires the removal of the valve body but does NOT require the replacement of the valve body.

L/R SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
L/R SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE

How to test a solenoid pack for P0750 trouble code

Power down the vehicle. Locate the black/green connector at the powertrain control module (PCM) and disconnect it. Using a digital ohmmeter, test the resistance on pins 10 and 19 (or pin 28 if there’s no wire connected to pin 19) for the low reverse solenoid. You should see 1.8Ω. If you don’t get that reading, check for a short between the connector and the transmission or an open in those two wires. If there’s no short or open, the low reverse solenoid is bad. Replace the transmission solenoid pack.

How to replace a Chrysler solenoid pack

• Remove the transmission pan and drain transmission fluid

• Remove transmission valve body

• Remove the two solenoid pack retaining screws

• Remove the solenoid pack and screen from the valve body
