Engine ticking noise

Fix engine ticking noise

Cobalt, Malibu, Colorado, Envoy, Hummer, Ion, Saab

GM has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) PIP3972A to address a ticking sound on the following vehicles:

2004-2007 Chevrolet Malibu
2005-2007 Pontiac G6
2007 Saturn Aura
equipped with a 3.5 LX9

The ticking sound is heard inside the vehicle and appears to come from the right side of the dash at idle speeds or stops. The noise sounds like a lifter click or solenoid click. It is neither. GM says the noise is instead coming from the right side engine strut mount. Their advice is to lubricate the engine strut. If the noise goes away, that may or may not solve the problem permanently. However if the noise lessens but does not go away, replace the strut mount
