How to test fuel pressure on a Ford engine
These instruction pertain to Ford 4.6L 2-valve, 4.6L 3-valve, 5.4L 3-valve and 6.2L 2-valve engine. It shows where the fuel pressure test port is and how to test.
Locate the test port
On a 4.6L 3-valve, unscrew the Evaporative Emission purge valve bracket and move the bracket to the side. That will allow access to the fuel test port
On a 5.4L 3-valve engine, remove the air intake resonator bolt. Then loosen the clamp. Rotate the resonator or remove it.
Remove the fuel pressure port cap and connect your fuel pressure gauge
Cycle the key from OFF to RUN and wait 3-seconds for pressure to build. Repeat several key turns and note pressure. Then start the engine and note pressure.
Fuel pressure must be 55-60-psi with engine running at idle.
