Diagnose P2101, P2110 and P2112 Jeep trouble codes

The P2101, P2110 and P2112 Jeep trouble codes are related to the electronic throttle body and indicate the throttle plate is stuck closed, binding, or otherwise unable to open. This can be caused by ice or carbon buildup, although there are other contributing factors. Here are the shop manual descriptions of the codes:

P2101-ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL MOTOR CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE

P2110-ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL – FORCED LIMITED RPM

P2112-ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL – UNABLE TO OPEN

P2112-THROTTLE ACTUATOR “A” CONTROL SYSTEM – STUCK CLOSED

Cause of Jeep P2101 trouble code

• The EGR airflow control valve has failed

• There’s a fault in the PCM.

Cause of Jeep P2112 trouble code

• The EGR airflow control valve positive control circuit is shorted to ground.

• The EGR airflow control valve negative control circuit is shorted to voltage.

• The EGR airflow control valve positive control circuit has an open or high resistance

• The EGR airflow control valve negative control circuit has an open or high resistance

• The EGR airflow control valve positive control circuit is shorted to ground

• The EGR airflow control valve is binding

• The EGR airflow control valve is inoperative

• There is a fault in the PCM

• Throttle plate obstruction

How to fix Jeep throttle body trouble codes

First, check the condition of the throttle plate in the electronic throttle body. Does it move freely? Is it stuck? If so, does it have carbon buildup or is it stuck mechanically?

If you find carbon buildup, a throttle body cleaning is in order.

But here’s the warning: after cleaning the throttle body, you must perform a throttle body relearn procedure and you need a scan tool to do that. If you clean the throttle body and don’t have access to a scan tool to do a throttle body relearn procedure, you may have a high, low or surging idle as the throttle body tries to find a new home position.

Most Common Cause of P2101, P2110, P2112 Jeep trouble codes

Carbon buildup in throttle body: Fix is to clean the throttle body and perform a throttle body relearn procedure with a scan tool. There is no other way to do a throttle body relearn.

Bad Throttle body: Fix is to replace the throttle body and do a throttle body relearn procedure with a scan tool.
