If you have an engine code wont clear situation on a Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyrs, Mercury Milans, or 4.6L V8 Mustang, Ford wants you to do a software update. Do NOT replace the PCM, it’s simply a software glitch that will go away once reprogrammed with the latest software.
The code that most often stays in memory is P1000 (System Readiness Status Incomplete). An skilled shop or dealer can do the reprogramming. It costs about $125.
