Cause of airbag light on condition
GM uses a special connector for their airbags. The connector contains a special

Airbag connector with CPA clip
locking clip called a connector position assurance (CPA) clip to keep the two portions locked together. The electrical connector portions and the CPA seat independently of each other. When installed, the CPA isolates the shorting bars within the electrical connector, so it’s a critical part of the airbag system. If the CPA clip is missing or installed incorrectly, the system will set a trouble code and turn the airbag light on.
Fix the airbag light on condition
Use the trouble codes to determine which connector is generating the fault. Then power down the airbag system before proceeding. Examine the connector and CPA to see if the two halves are properly engaged and that the clip is in place. If the CPA is loose or missing, replace it.
Remove the CPA and disconnect the electrical connector. Examine the terminals for corrosion or contamination. Also check for proper tension or terminal damage. If you find corrosion or damage, you MUST replace the terminals with special terminals from the dealer.
The terminals used in airbag systems incorporate a special plating that

Airbag terminal repair kit
allows them to work with low energy. If you use ordinary terminals, you WILL have problems. GM offers a terminal repair kit just for this purpose #J-38125 SIR Terminal Repair Kit.
Once you have repaired the terminals, apply dielectric grease GMP/N 12345579 on the connector pins and terminals when reassembling.
Reassemble the connector ensuring you hear and feel an audible click. Then reinstall the CPA clip.
Finish airbag repair
Clear the airbag codes and check for airbag light on next IGN cycle.
