Diagnose and fix Chevrolet Silverado P0106, P0107, P0174

Shops are reporting a high incidence of Chevrolet Silverado P0106, P0107, P0174 multiple codes that contradict one another. For example, codes P0106 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem and P0107 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low Input are contradictory. When you see that kind of behavior, you automatically suspect wiring harness issues.

What’s happening when you see multiple contradictory codes

All of these sensors share a 5-volt reference signal:

Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor
Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor
Air Conditioning (A/C) Pressure sensor
Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor 2
Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) sensor
Camshaft position (CMP) sensor

So a chaffing or rub-through on a wiring harness can cause multiple trouble codes due to grounding on the 5-volt reference signal circuit.

Check wiring harness to correct Chevrolet Silverado P0106, P0107, P0174

GM can’t seem to get their act together when it comes to protecting the integrity of wiring harnesses. In this case, shops are finding chaffing and rub-through in the wiring harness that passes near the transfer case and the front propeller shaft. The rub-through grounds random circuits or near the front driveshaft between the transfer case and front differential. Apparently, the plastic retainers break and that causes the harness to drop down and rub.

Another trouble spot is the area where the harness goes over the intake manifold on the drivers side. It rubs through on one of the attaching bolts.
