Nissan Drive Pattern

Nissan Drive Pattern specifications

Nissan started using permanent diagnostic trouble codes (P-DTC) in 2010 on the vehicles listed below. A P-DTC requires a special code clearning method if you don’t have a scan tool. The Nissan Drive Pattern requires either the shop of the owner to drive the vehicle a certain way to erase the code.

Use Nissan Drive Pattern to erase P-DTC

If you don’t follow the Nissan Drive Pattern, you will not erase the P-DTC and the vehicle will fail emissions. Here are two Nissan Drive Patterns

Nissan drive pattern B

Engine speed must reach 400 rpm or more.
Engine coolant temperature must reach 158°F or more.
Vehicle speed of 44 – 75 MPH must be maintained for 60 seconds or more.
Vehicle speed of 19 – 37 MPH must be maintained for 10 seconds or more.
Vehicle speed of 2 MPH or less with engine idling for 12 seconds or more.
Vehicle speed of 7 MPH or more for 10 minutes or more in total.
22 minutes or more elapsed time after engine start.
Drive the vehicle at steady speeds when a “maintained” speed is required. When the same

malfunction (DTC) is detected regardless of driving conditions, driving pattern B must be restarted.

Nissan Drive Pattern D

Vehicle speed of 25 MPH or more for 300 seconds or more.
Must maintain continuous idle speed for 30 seconds or more.
10 minutes or more elapsed time after engine start.
When the same malfunction (DTC) is detected regardless of driving conditions, driving pattern D must be restarted.
