Nissan P0442 — Service Bulletin Fix  

Service bulletin NTB09-020f for Nissan P0442

Nissan has issued a service bulletin NTB09-020f to address a Nissan P0442, P0455 and P0456 trouble code condition on the vehicles listed below.

The bulletin advises that a loose fuel filler cap may cause all of the above trouble codes. The diagnostic procedure is to conduct a smoke test to confirm the leak is caused by the fuel cap

Vehicles affected:

2007-11 All Nissan Models

Fix for Nissan P0442, P0455 and P0456

Check that the fuel filler cap is properly installed

Check the condition of the metal fuel filler neck for corrosion or debris that would prevent a tight fit. Check the rubber fuel filler cap gasket to ensure it is not torn or worn.

Service bulletin NTB13-097g for 2012 and newer Nissan models

Nissan has issued a service bulletin NTB13-097g to address a Nissan P0442, P0455 and P0456 trouble codes condition on the vehicles listed below.

The vehicles listed below have a dash warning light advising drivers to check the fuel filler cap for correct installation. The ECM conducts an EVAP test on each trip. If the fuel filler cap is loose during multiple trips, the trouble codes will store and the dash warning light will be illuminated.

Vehicles affected by service bulletin NTB13-097g

All 2012 and newer Nissan vehicles except LEAF and Titan XC with the V8 diesel engine

Diagnose P0442, P0455, and P0456

Confirm the fuel filler is properly installed.

Using a scan tool, perform an EVAP system function test.
Close the vent valve
Apply pressure using to the EVAP system
Monitor the EVAP pressure sensor for a leak for 10 minutes
Locate leak and repair
