If you encounter these trouble codes P0731, P0750, P0755, P0760, P1760 on your Ford Taurus, and your transmission does not shift and stays in 3rd gear, do NOT start replacing shift solenoids. Start your diagnosis by checking fuse #1 (15A) in the battery junction box. Inspect for a blown, missing, or poorly connected fuse. If the fuse is blown, head right for the engine wiring harness near the transmission solenoid connectors and the oxygen sensor pigtails. Shops are reporting that the wiring harness may melt and ground the power feed, blowing the fuse. A common area for the melting to occur is where an oxygen sensor pigtail touches the exhaust manifold. Repair the wiring harness and replace the fuse and the problem should go away
