Why does power steering fluid come out of reservoir Ford Focus
If you’ve got power steering fluid coming out of the reservoir chances are high that the power steering filter is plugged. The filter sits at the bottom of the reservoir and is NOT serviceable, so don’t even try to clean it. Get over to the Ford dealer and buy a new reservoir, it’ll come with a new filter. The filter gets plugged from steering rack wear, overheated fluid that breaks down, using the wrong power steering fluid or adding a power steering fluid additive. Most manufacturers now warn against adding ANY additive to the power steering fluid ESPECIALLY an additive containing Teflon. Want to clog up the filter right away, go ahead and add a Teflon additive. In the meantime, replace the reservoir and refill with fresh fluid.
