Ranger cranks but won’t start

Ranger cranks but won’t start

Ford has issued a service bulletin (#07-13-2) to address a problem where a 2007 Ranger cranks but won’t start. You may also find the following trouble codes stored in the PCM:

P1260 Passive Anti-Theft System

U2510 CAN-Invalid Data for Vehicle Security

B1318 Battery voltage Low

The first two codes may send you off to replace PATS components, while the B1318 code may make you scratch your head if the battery is up to full voltage. As with many other problems on modern vehicles, you’re dealing with a software glitch, not a parts failure. Head off to the dealer or a qualified independent shop for a PCM update. That’ll fix the problem and cost less than the parts you were about to throw at it.
