Diagnose and fix Traction control light flashing Ford trucks

Ford has issued a service bulletin 12-11-18 to address a Traction control light flashing and trouble codes C1278, C1280, C1282, C1963 on the vehicles listed below

2009-12 F150 and 2010-12 F150 Raptor vehicles built on or before 6/10/12.

Traction control light flashing symptoms

Drivers may notice electronic stability control activation during low speed maneuvers while turning and while towing a trailer. In addition to false electronic stability control activations, the ABS module may store trouble codes C1278, C1280, C1282, C1963 and turn on the ABS/ESC warning light. These false activations are caused by a software glitch. Do not replace any parts or perform any diagnostic work until you have updated the software.

Flash updates

The flash update can be performed by any Ford dealer or independent shop that’s equipped to perform flash updates. This software fix is NOT free. This is not a recall. Plan to pay between $150 to $225 for the update.
