Oil in air inlet duct

GM has issued a service bulletin to address a problem with oil in air intake duct, along with a check engine light, poor acceleration, and throttle body freezing. The bulletin applies to the following vehicles equipped with the 3.6L engine:

2008-11 Buick Enclave

2007-11 Chevrolet Malibu

2009-11 Chevrolet Traverse

2007-11 GMC Acadia

2007-10 Pontiac G6

2007-09 Saturn AURA

2007-10 Saturn OUTLOOK

GM states that the problem occurs after a cold start up or when driving in cold temperatures. If you scan the PCM, you may find any of the following trouble codes

P0101,P0171, P0172, P0174, P0175, P1516, P2177, P2178, P2179, P2180, P2187, P2188, P2189 and/or P2190 along with either ice or oil deposits in the air inlet duct.

Ice formation is caused by condensation freezing at the base of the throttle body with

additional collection of ice formation deposits in the air inlet duct. Freezing condensation forms after the vehicle has been driven and then parked in low ambient temperatures. Oil deposits are the collection of the engine vapors, fuel dilution and oil mist at the base of the throttle body with additional formation collecting in the duct.

To fix the problem, service the PCV system and replace the parts shown below:

If you own a 2007-2008 Enclave, Malibu, Traverse, Acadia, G6, AURA, OUTLOOK, follow these corrective steps to service the PCV system.

1. Remove both camshaft covers.

2. Clean the PCV orifice with low VOC brake cleaner.

3. Replace the bank1 and bank 2camshaft cover gasket.

4. Reassemble the bank1 camshaft cover.Tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 89lb in.

5. Reassemble the bank2 camshaft cover.Tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 89lb in).

6. Install new PCV foul air tube

Install these new parts:

#19301853 Tube, PCV (For Enclave, Traverse, Acadia, OUTLOOK)

#12616914 Tube, PCV (Malibu, G6, AURA)

#12647768 Cover, CM/SHF (LH) (LY7)

#12641261 Seal, CM/SHR CVR (RH) (LY7)

 

 If you own a 2009-2010 Enclave, Malibu, Traverse, Acadia, G6,

2009 AURA, OUTLOOK follow these corrective steps to service the PCV system.

1. Remove both camshaft covers

2. Clean the PCV orifice with low VOC brake cleaner.

3. Replace the bank1 and bank2 camshaft cover gasket.

4. Reassemble the bank1 and bank2 camshaft covers. Tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 89lb in).

 

Install these new parts:

#12647772 Cover, CM/SHF (LH) (LLT)

#12647768 Cover, CM/SHF (LH) (LY7)

#12641261 Seal, CM/SHR CVR (RH) (LLT, LY7)

 

If you own a 2011 Enclave, Malibu, Traverse, Acadia follow these corrective steps to service the PCV system.

1. Remove the bank2 camshaft cover.

2. Clean the PCV orifice with low VOC brake cleaner.

3. Replace the bank2 camshaft cover and replace the camshaft cover gasket.

4. Reassemble the bank2 camshaft cover and tighten the camshaft cover bolts to 89lbin.

Install these new parts:

#12647772 Cover, CM/SHF (LH) (LLT)

#12647768 Cover, CM/SHF (LH) (LY7)
