feature stops working, you must perform a Camry window reset, Camry window initialization.

Late model Toyota Camry windows have an anti-jam feature to prevent catching fingers in the window as it closes. The Toyota Camry requires a window reset or window initialization when you:

• replace the window glass
• replace the window regulator motor
• replace the window regulator
• Knock the anti-jam feature out of calibration by closing the window while driving on a rough road or,
• Knock the anti-jam feature out of calibration by opening or closing the window while the door is opened or closed or,
• Vehicle voltage changes rapidly (battery failure, jump starting)

The Camry window reset, Camry window initialization procedure depends on what you’re doing to the vehicle and where the vehicle was manufactured. The procedure shown below is for TMMK vehicles. For TMC vehicles, the anti-jam, auto up and auto down positions are stored in the ECU. To reset or perform a Camry window initialization on those vehicles, you must return the window regulator motor to its pre-initialized condition by removing the electrical connector from the regulator motor and initialize using the procedure shown at the bottom of this post.

TMMK  vehicles are made in the USA at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing facility in Kentucky. TMC vehicles are Made in Japan.

The anti-jam feature works by sensing voltage drop and motor position. The Camry window initialization procedure MUST be performed with all other electrical accessories OFF. That means; turn off the blower/AC, headlights, radio, and rear window defogger and don’t operate electrical mirrors, seats, etc.

Camry window initialization procedure when replacing the regulator motor with a NEW unit— TMMK vehicles

Retrain the Auto-up feature by performing the procedure below at least 5 times. You will see the light on the master switch blink during the process. The light will stay steady if the window initialization process is successful.

1. Turn IGN switch to the IG position
2. Open the window by pushing down on the window switch and holding in the down position for 1-second after the window is fully open. Release the switch.
3. Close the window by pulling up on the switch while holding it in the auto up position and holding the switch in the closed position for 1-second after the window is fully closed. Release the switch.

Camry window initialization procedure when removing/installing the existing window regulator motor assembly— TMMK vehicles

1. Turn IGN switch to the IG position
2. Close the window by pulling up on the switch while holding it in the auto up position and holding the switch in the closed position for 6-seconds after the window is fully closed. Release the switch.
NOTE: If the window does not move during this step or moves and stops halfway while pulling the switch up, release the switch and pull it up a second time.
3. Fully open the window by pushing down the power window regulator master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly, and hold the switch for 1 second or more after the window is fully opened. Release the switch.
4. Push down and hold the switch again for 4-seconds after the window has fully opened.
5. Close the window by pulling up on the switch and hold the switch for 1-second after the window is fully closed.

Camry window initialization procedure when the power window does not fully open due to mis-calibration from conditions listed above— TMMK vehicles

1. Turn IGN switch to the IG position
2. Close the window by pulling up on the switch while holding it in the auto up position and holding the switch in the closed position for 6-seconds after the window is fully closed. Release the switch.
NOTE: If the window does not move during this step or moves and stops halfway while pulling the switch up, release the switch and pull it up a second time.
3. Fully open the window by pushing down the power window regulator master switch assembly or power window regulator switch assembly, and hold the switch for 1 second or more after the window is fully opened. Release the switch.
4. Push down and hold the switch again for 4-seconds after the window has fully opened.
5. Close the window by pulling up on the switch and hold the switch for 1-second after the window is fully closed.

If the initialization is not completed properly, the LIN communication system may store a trouble code.

Camry window reset, Camry window initialization TMC vehicles

1.    Disconnect the window regulator motor connector during power window operation. This will return the motor to the PRE-initialized state. Reconnect the connector.
2.    Turn IGN switch to the IG position
3.    The light on the master switch will blink
4.    Close the window by pressing down on the switch until the glass closes all the way. Release the switch.
5.    Open the window by pulling up on the Auto-up switch and holding the switch in the up position for 1-second.

The light on the master switch should be on steady. If not, the initialization procedure failed. In that event, lower the window glass by at least 2” and then hold the switch assembly in the AUTO UP position for 1-second after the window closes fully.
