Car won’t shift gears, harsh engagement, Ford vehicles

Ford has issued a service bulletin #07-21-11 to address a Car won’t shift gears, harsh engagement, Ford vehicles problem. The bulletin applies to the vehicle listed below. In addition to the symptoms, the vehicles may have the check engine light on and show the following trouble codes P0715 P0717 P0718 P0720 P0721 P0722. Ford describes the symptoms as harsh engagements, no shift, no upshift, fifth gear only

P0715     Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0717     Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal
P0718     Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Intermittent
P0720     Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0721     Output Speed Sensor Range/Performance
P0722     Output Speed Sensor No Signal

The problem affect the vehicles listed below equipped wit the 6F50 TRANSAXLES BUILT PRIOR TO 10/21/2007

2008 Taurus X, Taurus
2007-2008Edge

LINCOLN:
2007-2008 MKX

MERCURY:
2008 Sable

If you have these problems on any of the listed vehicle do NOT start replacing parts. Ford has determined that the problem may be an intermittent connection in either the output shaft sensor (OSS) or the turbine shaft speed sensor (TSS). So test the sensors using the diagrams below. The connectors are the same shape but are wired differently. If the sensor don’t provide the expected values, replace the sensors.
