Kia service bulletin #038 for P0449 P0451

Kia has issued a service bulletin #38 to address a P0449, P0451 (PO449 Evaporative Emission System – Vent Valve Solenoid Circuit and PO451 – Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Range Performance ) condition on the vehicles listed below. Normally you would test and confirm a faulty vent solenoid or pressure sensor. However, this bulletin warns you NOT TO REPLACE the Canister Close Valve (CCV) for either of these codes.

Kia reports that the vehicle listed below that were produced from May 16. 2016 through March 6. 2017 may experience an early shut-off during fuel refill and a check engine light with PO449 or PO451. Kia has determined the cause to be a faulty air drain case.

2014 – 2018 Soul (PS) produced from July 21. 2013 through June 1. 2017
2012-2017 Rio (UB) produced from June 21. 2011 through March 31, 2017
2014-2017 Forte (YD, YDm) produced from February 18. 2013 through March 2. 2017

Replace the air drain case on Kia Forte

Remove the passenger side rear wheel tire and well liner.
Remove the gas cap and loosen the four filler neck retaining bolts just enough to allow removal of Air Drain Case.

Remove the outer lower half of the filler neck air drain case. Then remove the inner half of the air drain case and disconnect the canister close valve airflow inlet hose. Install the updated air drain cause in reverse order. Make sure you hear a click when installing the new air drain case. Tighten the filler neck bolts to 1-4.43 Inch/lbs.

Reinstall wheel well liner.

Reinstall wheel and torque lug nuts

Replace the air drain case on Kia Rio and Kia Soul

Remove the upper air drain case retaining clip. Install the updated air drain case in reverse order. Tighten the filler neck bolts to 1-4.43 Inch/lbs.

Reinstall wheel well liner.

Reinstall wheel and torque lug nuts
