P060E Code on GM Vehicles — Service Bulletin Fix
Learn what might cause a P060E code on certain GM vehicles
GM has issued a service bulletin Pip #4549A to address various trouble codes, including a P060E code on the GM vehicles listed below. GM has identified a possible wire chaffing issue that can cause any of these trouble codes: P0326 P0335 P060E P0561 P0651 P2120 P2122 P2123 P2125 P2127 P2128 P2135 P2138 U1863 U1886 U1899 U2105 U2106 U2107 U2143.
The cause of the codes may be due to wire chaffing in the area near the Canister Purge Solenoid attachment bracket. If that occurs, it can cause an intermittent short to ground. In GM’s brilliant engineering, they routed the harness near a sharp edge of the bracket; so it can touch the edge of the bracket, causing rub-though and shorting.
This bracket is used on all Ecotec engines in the vehicles listed below.
The service bulletin states that if the code is constant, perform the diagnostics for that code. However, if the code or codes are intermittent, then there’s a high possibility that chaffing is the cause.
How to check for wire chaffing cause of a
The purge valve is located on the engine on the driver’s side at the top of the engine (see diagram below). Locate the wiring harness near the bracket and check for chaffing. If you find any, open the harness and repair any damaged insulation using electrical tape or or liquid electrical tape. Reroute the harness if possible. If not, file down the sharp edge of the bracket and apply additional electrical tape to the harness.
