Nissan Liftgate problems

Fix Nissan Liftgate problems

Shops are seeing an increase in the number of Nissan Liftgate problems. Nissan has issued a service bulletin #BT12-021C to address Nissan liftgate problems on the vehicles listed below. The bulletin states that the liftgate motors are calibrated to provide smooth liftgate operation providing that the door hinges and striker are in good condition and calibrated properly.

If the back door reverses and closes while opening with an automatic/power open operation, perform a re-calibration.

You may encounter Nissan liftgate problems if you:

• Manually open the liftgate aggressively, exerting above normal force on the hinges when the door is stopping at the full open position.
• If a wind gust occurs while opening the back door and exerts above normal force on the hinges when the door is stopping at the full open position.
• If you bump the side of the door with heavy force while the door is open.
• If you adjust the door hinges or striker.

Vehicles affected by Nissan service bulletin #BT12-021C

2015 – 2017 Murano (Z52)
2016 Murano Hybrid (Z52)
2013 – 2017 Pathfinder (R52)
2014 – 2015 Pathfinder Hybrid (R52)
2014 – 2017 Rogue (T32)
2017 Rogue Hybrid (T32)

Most Nissan liftgate problems can be solved with hinge and striker adjustment and a re-calibration. Re-calibration requires a scan tool, so take it to the dealer or a shop that’s equipped to perform re-calibrations.
