Why You Need a Brake Caliper Wind Back Tool Kit
This caliper wind back tool kit has everything you need to work on right and left hand caliper pistons.
Rear calipers with integral parking brake require you to wind the caliper piston back into place before replacing brake pads. You’ll need a brake caliper wind back tool kit. You might be tempted to buy this cheap wind back tool: DON’T! The wind back procedure requires you to push in while turning and in my experience, this cheap tool doesn’t work well at all. You may save a few bucks, but it’ll turn a fairly easy job into a lot of work. And that assumes that it even works on your vehicle.
Some auto parts store rent wind back tool kits, but they often don’t have the right adapters to fit the slots on the caliper piston. That’s why you need this full 24-piece brake caliper wind back tool kit from OrionMotorTech.com
Rick tries out the OrionMotorTech wind back tool kit
OrionMotorTech let me try out their caliper wind back tool kit and it has everything you’ll need to do the rear brake on your vehicle. Here’s what’s in the kit:
Start by finding the right adapter
The right adapter should fit snugly into the slots on the caliper piston and be approximately the same diameter.
Locate the thrust bolt assembly
Choose the proper thrust bolt assembly (right hand thread or left hand thread) and slip the retaining plate onto the bolt assembly
Turn the hex nut until the adapter plate pushes the caliper piston in.
Rewind caliper piston
Wind the caliper piston back into the bore. Turn the hex bolt to keep pressure on the adapter if needed.
Buy directly from OrionMotorTech on Amazon
The kit sells for $23.99 and I highly recommend it. It’s a full kit and is reasonably priced. Buy it here
