How to perform a Nissan throttle body relearn procedure

Perform a Nissan throttle body relearn procedure any time you clean an electronic throttle body, disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle body, throttle body relearndisconnect the battery, or power down the ECM you must  so the ECM/PCM can establish a new fully closed position.

If you have a scan tool, follow the directions included with the tool. If you don’t have a scan tool, follow this procedure

You can also perform this procedure if you feel the idle speed it out of spec.

Qualifying conditions required before starting Nissan throttle body relearn:

Each of these conditions must be met before attempting a Nissan Throttle Body Relearn Procedure:

Battery voltage must be above 12.9V with engine running at idle
Engine coolant temperature must be within 158 – 212 F
Vehicle must be in Park or Neutral
All electrical accessories OFF (Air conditioner, headlamp, rear window defogger)
The steering wheel must be in the straight ahead position.
Vehicle speed must be 0
Transmission must be warmed up (driven for at least 10 minutes.)

Nissan relearn Procedure

1) Perform the Accelerator Pedal Released Learning procedure. This procedure tells the ECU what voltages to expect when your foot is off the pedal

Foot is off the accelerator pedal
Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds
Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds
Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds
Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

2) Perform the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning Procedure
Foot off the accelerator pedal
Turn ignition switch ON.
Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds
During the last 10-second period, listen to the throttle body to make sure you hear it moving
3)  Start the engine and let it run under the temp gauge is in the normal range.
4) Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
5) With your foot off the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds.
6) Then perform this procedure with the engine off, key in ON position.
Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds.
Fully depress the accelerator pedal
Fully release the accelerator pedal.
7)  Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it down for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and turned ON.
8) Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL turned ON.
9) Start engine and let it idle.
10) Wait 20 seconds.
11) Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.
Idle speed = 650 ± 50 rpm (in P or N position)
