Shop for the best replacement headlight
There are good replacement headlight assemblies and garbage units.
I highly recommend TYC or DEPO replacement headlight. In my opinion, they’re the two best brands if you’re not planning on buying a dealer headlight assembly. Here’s why
TYC is a major player in the world of aftermarket replacement parts
In addition to making headlight assemblies for the aftermarket, TYC is also a Tier 1 OEM supplier to these carmakers: Ford, GM, HSV, Isuzu, Blue Bird, Navistar, Daimler Truck, Prevost, BMW Motorrad, Ducati, MV Agusta, Triumph, Kymco, Kawasaki, Sanyang, Suzuki & others as well as OE after sales service parts & accessories such as BMW Group , Chrysler Mopar, Ford Motorcraft & GM Service.
Their headlights sell for more than the other brands because they have the reputation to back up the higher price. TYC is a member of CAPA, so their products are tested to ensure they meet OE specification.
Who is DEPO Auto Lamp manufacturing
DEPO starting manufacturing automotive lighting products in 1987 and in 2015 established DEPO Auto Lamp manufacturing. DEPO is ISO 9001 certified and a member of CAPA
Who are the other replacement headlight manufacturers?
Lots of copycat companies have entered the headlight aftermarket. To check if their products have been CAPA certified, go to the CAPA site.
How much is a replacement headlight assembly?
Let’s compare replacement headlight costs for a 2011 Subaru Outback Premium Edition
• A genuine Subaru headlight lists for $349.95 each
• Autozone lists a TYC brand aftermarket headlight assembly (#20-9115-00) for $266.99 each
• Rockauto.com lists several brands for this vehicle:
• The TYC brand aftermarket headlight assembly (#20-9115-00 same as the Autozone TYC headlight above) for $143.89 each
• The DEPO brand aftermarket headlight assembly (#3201122RAS) $123.79 each
• Various unnamed aftermarket manufacturers for $101.79 each
What’s involved in installing replacement headlight assemblies?
In some vehicles, the installation is simple, requiring the removal of a few bolts and a quick swap out. However, in other vehicles, the grill and bumper cover must be removed to swap out the headlights.
Removing the grill and bumper cover may sound intimidating, but the repair is actually quite easy. Just make sure you have a good shop manual to show you where all the fasteners are located.
