Ford 3.5 ecoboost excessive oil usage

Ford 3.5 ecoboost excessive oil usage service bulletin #15-0086

Ford has issued technical service bulletin #15-0086 to address excessive oil consumption on the vehicles listed below. The Ford 3.5 ecoboost engine can burn excessive oil due to a positive crankcase valve (PCV) issue.

Vehicles affected by TSB #15-0086

2010-14 Ford Flex and Ford Taurus
2013-14 Ford Explorer
2010-2014 Lincoln MKS and MKT

Cause of excessive oil consumption

Ford has determined that the vehicles listed above and equipped with an aluminum valve cover may have excessive oil consumption that can be seen at the tailpipe during normal engine operating temperatures. The aluminum valve covers have an internal oil separator to prevent oil vapors from being sucked back into the engine intake through the PCV system. The TSB suggests removing the PCV valve to check for the presence of liquid oil in the separator. If you see liquid oil, replace the right-hand valve cover with a new updated part.

The new part will eliminate the excessive oil consumption issue.
