How to Fix A Ford Door Latch Cable
Fix a Ford Door Latch Cable with Dorman’s Repair Kit
The door latch cables in Ford vehicles are known for early failure. The original cable is a steel cable in a vinyl sheath with a plastic end that connects to the door latch. The plastic end deteriorates, and the cable no longer operates the latch. The dealer only sells the complete door latch cable, costing well over $120 each. But there’s a much cheaper way to fix a Ford Door Latch Cable.
The Dorman door latch repair kit 926-111 fixes the problem for $11.00
The Dorman latch repair kit comes with new cable ends that eliminate the need to replace the entire latch by sliding sleeves over the faulty plastic ends. Find the kit on Amazon or from your local auto parts store.
Steps to Fix a Ford Door Latch Cable
• Remove the door trim panel and the latch and cable from the door.
• Using a knife and side cutters, remove the plastic retainer from the end of the existing cable sheath.
• Slide the cable into the groove on the new aluminum cable ends.
• Push the new part onto the existing cable sheath. Once it’s fully in place, locate the notched end of the new end in the latch assembly. You’re done.
