Dodge 3.6L engine construction and specifications

The 2013 Dodge 3.6-liter V6 engine, also known as the Pentastar engine, is a six-cylinder gasoline engine that was introduced in 2011 for the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles. It is used in the Dodge Challenger, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, and Ram 1500 1.

The engine is 38% more powerful, consumes 11% less fuel, and 42 lbs (19 kg) lighter than its 3.5-liter predecessor. It is also smaller in size: 94 mm shorter than the 3.7 and 34 mm than the 3.5 V6.

Engine Block: high-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder block with cast iron cylinder liners and a 60-degree V angle between cylinder banks
Cylinder heads: sand-cast aluminum cylinder heads made of T7 heat-treated aluminum. 4-valve per cylinder and dual overhead camshafts with roller finger followers with hydraulic lifters. The intake and exhaust camshafts are chain-driven, with a separate timing chain for each head. All four camshafts are equipped with torque-actuated phasers.
Valve construction: The intake valves are a single-piece design and made from forged heat-resistant (martensitic) steel. The intake valve diameter is 39 mm. The exhaust valves are a two-piece design with a forged austenitic head welded to a martensitic stem. The exhaust valve diameter is 30 mm.
Lubrication: The engine block is equipped with three piston oil cooler jets. Each oil jet cools two pistons, preventing detonations by managing heat
Connecting rods: Forged steel connecting rods
Pistons: cast aluminum pistons with low-friction rings and reduced skirt area for less weight and friction
Oil pump: chain-driven, vane-type variable displacement oil pump
Manifold and throttle body: A lightweight composite intake manifold is used along with a 74 mm throttle body and an electronically controlled multipoint port fuel injection system
