Subaru CVT Extended Warranty: 10 Years of Peace of Mind
Free Subaru CVT extended warranty on 2018 Subaru CVT transmissions
Subaru has issued service bulletin #16-117-18, extending the new car powertrain warranty to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the previous 5 years or 60,000 miles. The Subaru CVT extended warranty applies to the vehicles listed below.
Reason for the Subaru CVT warranty extension
Subaru states that the warranty extension is not in response to any particular condition but rather to provide customers with added assurance regarding the function and performance of their CVT transmission.
Having said that Subaru has three other service bulletins in effect on these transmissions, including a bulletin for a P0841 Secondary Oil Pressure Sensor Performance issue

Should you buy an extended warranty for your Subaru?
Subaru’s CVT transmissions have had some reliability issues in the past, so an extended warranty could provide peace of mind, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time.
Extended warranties can be expensive, so you’ll need to weigh the cost against the potential repair costs if the transmission fails outside the factory warranty period.
If you plan to use your Subaru for towing, hauling heavy loads, or other demanding driving conditions, the added strain on the CVT could increase the risk of failure, making an extended warranty more valuable.
Ultimately, the decision comes down to your personal risk tolerance, budget, and how long you plan to keep the vehicle. If the extended warranty cost is reasonable and you want the added peace of mind, especially if you plan to keep the car past the factory warranty period, it could be a worthwhile investment.
