Any time you disconnect battery power to the vehicle or the powertrain control module (PCM), you lose the baseline throttle body position. That can cause a no-start or rough idle condition. Follow this 7-step 2012 Malibu procedure

Learn Procedure – Performed after the ECM is programmed or replaced

Note: Do NOT perform this procedure if any trouble codes are stored or the check engine light is on.

1) Start the engine and let it idle for 3 minutes.
2) Turn the Ignition to OFF for 60 seconds.
3) Restart the engine and let it idle for 3 minutes. After the second 3-minute run time, the engine speed should return to normal.
4) If the idle does not return to normal, drive the vehicle at speeds above 44-MPH with multiple decelerations and periods of extended idling.
