How to re-pair your car remote after battery replacement

Sometimes the keyless remote fob can lose its pairing with your remote keyless entry system. Here’s how to get the Re-pair your car remote after battery replacement

If your car has a key ignition and the remote isn’t working after replacing the battery

Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the IGN to RUN, then off. Repeat six to eight times. You may hear a chirp or hear the door locks cycle. That’s your sign that the car has relearned your remote

If your car has a push-to-start push button ignition and it won’t start due to the fob

Method 1: Re-pair the remote using the emergency key in the exterior door lock cylinder

On some push-to-start vehicles, the system can lose its pairing with the remote. So you have to re-pair your car remote after battery replacement

If your car remote is not working after battery replacement, remove the emergency key from the fob. Insert the key into the exterior door lock cylinder. Turn the key to lock and then unlock. Repeat this six to eight times. You may hear a chirp or hear the door locks cycle. That’s your sign that the car has relearned your remote

Method 2: Re-pair the remote by using the emergency key in the IGN switch.

Locate the emergency key in the emergency IGN switch (usually inside the glove box on the left side or in the console —consult your owner’s manual to find the location). Cycle the key six to eight times. You may hear a chirp or hear the door locks cycle. That’s your sign that the car has relearned your remote.
