Blower resistor fails repeatedly

Blower resistor fails again

GM has issued a service bulletin #PIT3081A to address an issue where the blower resistor fails repeatedly or the blower motor only operates on high speed on the vehicles listed below. If you have replaced the blower motor resistor and the new one fails, read this article.

Affected vehicles
2003-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban
2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic
2003-2007 GMC Sierra Classic
2003-2006 GMC Yukon Models

GM has determined that the cause of the repeat blower resistor failures is a mis-positioned harness from the blower motor resistor to the right I/P fuse
block that causes the harness rub through and short to the right I/P metal support.

To fix the problem, locate the wiring harness and check its condition. Repair chafed insulation. Then re-route the harness away from the right I/P support. GM also recommends insulating the I/P support bracket with foam tape to prevent any future
concerns.
