AC not cold enough, Compressor doesn’t run, air conditioning not cold, Escalade, Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Sierra, Yukon
GM has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) #04-01-38-013 to address an air conditioning problem where the air conditioning isn’t cold or the compressor doesn’t run. The TSB applies to the following models:
2003-2005 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2003-2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2003-2005 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
2003-2005 HUMMER H2
The problem may be caused by a wiring problem that prevents the compressor clutch from engaging. In addition, the A/C COMP fuse in the underhood fuse box may be blown. Start your diagnosis by checking the wiring harness near the steering idler arm. The harness is covered by plastic conduit and may not appear damaged. But the conduit may be concealing the damage. Remove the conduit and check for wire fraying, rub through, or short. Then re-route the harness away from the idler arm, securing it with zip ties.
